WWW Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Sam at Taking On A World of Words. Give her blog a look and join the discussion!
The Three Ws are:
What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading?
What do you think you’ll read next?
Currently:
Long Division by Kiese Laymon. I’m enjoying it, but I gotta admit, I really don’t know what the heck is going on in this book! 🙂 There’s time travel, racial commentary, teenage angst, humor. It reminds me a bit of Paul Beatty’s The Sellout in tone. It’s my book group book for this month, and I can’t wait to meet in a couple of weeks and see what everyone else makes of it!
Recently Finished: My Life With Bob by Pamela Paul, My Name is Lucy Barton by Elizabeth Strout, and Now You See Me (Lacey Flint #1) by S.J. Bolton. 4, 5, and 4 stars, respectively! Reviews still to come (eventually, ha ha…)
Up Next: Hmmm… I’ve got Wonder Woman: Warbringer by Leigh Bardugo checked out from the library, as well as Silent Nights:Christmas Mysteries (British Library Crime Classics.) But you know me – it could very well be something entirely different!
Read any of these? If not, do any of them strike your fancy? What are you currently reading? Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!
I’m glad you enjoyed Pamela Paul’s book. I have a little stack of Christmas-themed books building up, but I’m not sure when to start them!

The Paul book wasn’t exactly what I was expecting – it had more emotional heft than I anticipated. But I did really like it.

Am I the only one not feeling Elizabeth Strout? I’ll have to give My Name Is Lucy Barton another try.

No, you’re not – I’ve seen some mixed feelings on this one from my Goodreads friends. People seem to love it or find it lackluster. It just hit me really hard, right in my gut.

The only one I’ve read is My Life with Bob, which I think I’ve talked about before; good luck writing up your reviews and hope you enjoy your holidays! (Oh, currently reading: Iris Murdoch’s Under the Net and L.M. Montgomery’s The Blue Castle, both of which I thought were rereads but I never actually read the Murdoch after all!)

Thanks! I intend to read more of Montgomery’s books after the readalong so I’ll be interested in your thoughts on The Blue Castle!

I’ve read Life with Bob, and I think I also gave it 4 stars!
Silent Night looks like a cozy read… I feel myself longing for it right now. 🙂

I was surprised by My Life with Bob – I think I expected more whimsy initially, but I ended up really liking the serious stuff she wrote about. I agree, Silent Night looks really cozy and perfect for the Christmas season! I’m so looking forward to it!

After reading your post, I looked to see if we had it anywhere in our library system, and I found it! So of course I also requested it. 🙂

I am curious to know where your current read is going to take you, Laila. 🙂
I want to read ‘My Life With Bob…’ I hope to find a copy soon.
I am currently reading Antoine Leiris’s ‘You Will Not Have My Hate’. It is surely going to make me sob.

Ha ha, Deepika, I’m curious about that too! It’s a “trippy” read for sure!
You Will Not Have My Hate sounds so amazing – you read all of these heartbreaking books, I don’t know how you do it! 🙂 I admire your willingness to feel things. Sometimes I shield myself from hard stuff too much I think.

I am so glad you gave My Name is Lucy Barton five stars. I would find it hard to like someone who wasn’t moved by that book😉

It really just killed me. It’s thrilling to read something so spare yet so moving.

It sounds like Long Division is going to make for a great book club discussion. I always find the books I wasn’t sure about have some good discussion points. Happy reading and thanks for participating in WWW Wednesday!

Glad you enjoyed Now You See Me, and just to say the series gets even better as it goes along… 🙂

I enjoyed it so much, despite cringing a lot! I especially enjoyed her interaction with Mark. Can’t wait to read more of the series. I don’t think I’ll wait long before starting the second.

Huh. I’ve never heard of Long Division, but based on your description I can understand why you might feel a bit lost! I’m looking forward to your eventual review. I haven’t read any of the books you listed above, but I’m looking forward to reading Warbringer. Because: Wonder Woman, ❤

I try to read one Christmas type book during the holiday season – and I’ve been wanting to read one of these British Crime Library Classics anyway, since Fiction Fan is always reviewing them favorably!
